A Night of Balance and Bravery
The lights dimmed, the crowd held its breath, and then—perfection. Or close enough to it. Viliana Kostadinova and Kristian Manolov didn’t just compete at the Sport Acrobatics World Cup in Burgas; they commanded the floor. With their coach Gergana Daneva guiding from the sidelines, the duo delivered a masterclass in stability and power, scoring 27.410 points to claim the bronze medal in the mixed pairs category. It wasn’t just a medal; it was a statement. The applause echoing through Arena Burgas was the sound of a nation proud.
But make no mistake, the competition was ferocious. Gold went to the Russian duo of Elizaveta Medvedeva and Oleg Mayorov with a staggering 29.010 points, while Dinara Aisina and Artemiy Petrovski took silver. Poland’s Maya Mrozek and Michal Skiba finished fourth, with Israel’s Roni Teller and Hen Banouz in fifth. Bulgaria’s second pair, Ralitza Kirova and Plamen Yanov, showed grit to land sixth, proving the depth of the national team.
More Than Just a Podium Finish
Nedko Kostadinov, general secretary of the Bulgarian Sport Acrobatics Federation, didn’t mince words. "This bronze came at the perfect moment," he declared, praising the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Municipality of Burgas for their relentless support. "Viliana and Kristian have the mental fortitude. We can dream big for the upcoming World Championships in Italy."
The athletes themselves stayed humble. "We could have done better, but we’re happy with our debut at this level," said Manolova. Kostadinova added, "I’m satisfied with the bronze and our performance. Thank you for the support."
Elsewhere on the floor, the Bulgarian women’s trio of Zhaklina Stoyanova, Margarita Todorova, and Proletina Ivanova placed 16th, while the women’s pair of Lusia Emilie Yankov and Siyana Kiryakova finished 14th. The global giants shone elsewhere: Belarus took gold in women’s trio, Israel dominated women’s pairs, and the USA claimed top honors in men’s pairs. Russia swept the men’s quartet podium. Yet, amidst the global superstars, Bulgaria’s bronze in mixed pairs stood as the night’s brightest local beacon.
A Festival of Acrobatics
Burgas didn’t just host a competition; it hosted a festival. Alongside the World Cup, the Burgas International Acro Cup turned the arena into a circus of skill and grace. For the third consecutive year, the city proved it is an elite organizer, earning high marks for the seamless execution of events that blend athleticism with artistry. The stage is set for Italy, but tonight, the glory belonged to Burgas.
