Coach of the Brazilian national team, Carlo Ancelotti, has officially revealed the list of 26 players who will represent the five-time world champions at the upcoming World Cup. The list, which had been a subject of speculation for days, finally came to light, and the biggest news is the confirmation – Neymar is fit and will lead the national team!
Brazil will compete in Group C, where their opponents will be Morocco (June 14), Haiti (June 20), and Scotland (June 25). To prepare for the main tournament, friendly matches against Panama and Egypt are scheduled.
This will be the legendary Italian's first World Cup as a coach (he played in two), and also the first official tournament following his extended contract with Brazil until 2030. The mission is clear: a sixth world title and erasing the painful memories of the previous five World Cups where Brazilians failed to advance past the semifinals (last in 2014 when they suffered a 1:7 defeat to Germany as hosts).
Ancelotti believes in his chosen players and emphasizes that the selection process has been rigorous.
- This is a list created after numerous analyses throughout the year. There is a lot of competition, passion, and knowledge. We have done a very good job. It won't be perfect, but it will certainly be with the least amount of mistakes. This is the team that should give their best at the World Cup - Ancelotti stated, then turned to Neymar:
- He is an important player and will be important at this World Cup. But he will have the same responsibilities as the other 25 players. He might play, or he might not. He could start the match on the bench and come in later.
