First Nation to Reveal Squad
Bosnia-Herzegovina has made history by becoming the first of the 48 participating nations to name its final 26-player roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. National team coach Sergej Barbarez officially confirmed the squad on May 28, setting the tone for the tournament preparations.
This marks the second World Cup appearance for the Balkan side, following their group stage exit in 2014. Their path to the finals was arduous, featuring crucial victories over Romania in the qualifying groups and a dramatic playoff triumph against Italy.
Dzeko Leads a Veteran Core
The squad is anchored by Edin Dzeko, the 40-year-old striker and all-time leading scorer for Bosnia-Herzegovina with 73 goals. Currently playing for Schalke 04, Dzeko remains the spiritual leader of the team. Barbarez has built a squad heavily reliant on experienced veterans, many of whom are likely chasing their last World Cup dream, balanced with a new generation of players from top European leagues.
Notably, the list includes Jovo Lukic, the prolific forward for Universitatea Cluj and the top scorer in the Romanian Superliga. His inclusion highlights the depth of talent available to the coaching staff, bridging local league success with international ambition.
Group B Challenges Await
Bosnia-Herzegovina enters Group B as a strong contender, facing Canada, Switzerland, and Qatar. Their opening match is against hosts Canada on June 12, followed by a clash with Switzerland on June 18 and Qatar on June 24. The group stage promises intense competition, with Bosnia aiming to advance beyond the preliminary rounds for the first time in their history.
The full squad includes goalkeeper Osman Hadzikic among the 26 selected players. With a mix of experience and fresh energy, the team looks to make a significant impact on the global stage.
bosnia prima cu lista tbh, dar e un lot bătrân... Dzeko e legendă dar oare mai are ceva în el pentru 4 luni? nu sunt convins că vor trece de grupe, Canada acasă e altceva. vedem...
