Slovan Bratislava is in the final stages of selecting a new head coach after the departure of longtime manager Vladimír Weiss. Among the five candidates, Igor Bišćan is the frontrunner, according to ŠPORT.sk, with Yaya Touré as his main competitor.

Kmotrík: Decision Expected by the End of the Month

General Director of Slovan Ivan Kmotrík Jr. provided details on the club's search for a new head coach. "We are in the final stages of selecting a new head coach for our first team. We aim to resolve this issue by the end of the month. We still have ample time, as preparations start between June 10 and 15. Given the importance of this decision for the entire club, a thorough approach to the selection and negotiations is necessary," Kmotrík stated.

Kmotrík also confirmed some of the media reports. "I had meetings on this topic outside of Slovakia yesterday and today, and more are planned for the week. I can confirm that the names mentioned in the media, Igor Bišćan and Yaya Touré, are among our five top candidates. We are not currently in negotiations with Fernando Torres," he added.

Bišćan Leading Favorite, Touré Lacks Experience

According to sources, Igor Bišćan is the leading favorite for the Slovan position. Bišćan has coaching experience with Olimpija Ljubljana, Rijeka, Croatian U-21, Dinamo Zagreb, Saudi Al-Shabab, and Qatari Al-Ahli. He has been without a club since December of last year.

Yaya Touré, on the other hand, has a stellar playing career, having won three English titles with Manchester City and two Spanish titles and the Champions League with Barcelona. However, he has never served as a head coach. He has previously been an assistant coach in various clubs and is currently without a club since October 2024.

Vladimír Weiss, who left Slovan after five years, returned to the Slovak national team. The club previously denied reports that Zsolt Hornyák or Tomáš Janotka would succeed him. Slovan has been the champion of Slovakia for the past eight years and will face Champions League qualifiers next season. Croatian player Niko Janković is currently on loan from Rijeka and plays for Slovan.
