The Serbian Patriarch Porfirije will lead a liturgy procession in Belgrade on Thursday to celebrate the city's anniversary. This year’s celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, known as Spasovdan, will be enhanced by the arrival of the Holy Belt of the Virgin Mary from Mount Athos, as announced yesterday at a program presentation.
This year’s procession will feature a significant relic, the Holy Belt of the Virgin Mary, which will be brought to Serbia from the Vatoped Monastery on Mount Athos. The procession will begin at the Resurrection Church and proceed to the Cathedral of Saint Sava. The Holy Belt will be carried by the Serbian Guard, clergy, military cadets, and cultural societies.
The Serbian Patriarch Porfirije will lead the procession, which will start with a liturgy at the Resurrection Church, followed by the Spasovdan procession. The procession will follow a route from the Resurrection Church along Knez Mihailova Street, Kralja Milana Street, and then along the Boulevard of Liberation to the Saint Sava Plateau, ending at the Cathedral of Saint Sava.
At the intersection of Knez Mihailova and Kralja Milana streets, a baldachin, or 'heaven,' will be set up under which Patriarch Porfirije will personally present the Holy Belt. The procession will also include military cadets, police band, high-ranking officials, and believers. The Holy Belt will be displayed for veneration at the Cathedral of Saint Sava after the liturgy.
