The Landlord’s Verdict

The dust hasn’t even settled on the last season, but Gigi Becali has already drawn the line in the sand. At 67, the Pipera landowner isn’t interested in half-measures. Disappointed by a campaign that saw FCSB miss the Superliga play-offs for the first time in their history, Becali has made his stance clear: the domestic market is dead to him. “It’s over,” he declared. “There’s no one left to take from Romania. There are no people there anymore.”

After a season that fell drastically short of expectations, the former champions scraped into the UEFA Conference League qualifiers only after beating FC Botoșani and Dinamo București in the playoffs. But survival isn’t enough for the club’s owner. He wants dominance. To get it, he’s launching an aggressive summer transfer campaign, bypassing local talent entirely. “They study, they see what’s happening, they pick three. From three, I choose one,” Becali explained to Digi Sport. “I’ve chosen. We’re in negotiations. Naturally, I’m not going to pay 10 million for a player.”

Cleaning House

If the incoming strategy is bold, the outgoing roster changes are drastic. Becali is purging the squad to rebuild from the ground up. Veteran defender Vlad Chiricheș is already gone, followed by Baba Alhassan. Marius Băcilă’s side will also see Mamadou Thiam depart when his contract expires, and David Kiki is likely to be offered a release after barely featuring last term.

The biggest headache might be Mihai Lixandru. The midfielder wants playing time, and Becali is ready to let him walk for around €500,000. The message is simple: adapt or leave. The summer window won’t just be about adding names; it’s about wiping the slate clean.

COMMENT: fcsb need a total reset tbh, becali is right about the local market being dry rn. losing chiricesh hurts but lixandru for half a mil? sounds like a robbery. who are they actually signing though...
