A Legend Silences the Microphone

The basketball world holds its breath. The lights dim. The arena falls silent. Today, the city of Belgrade prepares to say goodbye to a voice that defined an era. Edin Avdić, the legendary sports journalist and commentator, is being honored in a solemn commemoration starting at 13:00 hours. He left us too soon, at just 48 years old, leaving behind a legacy etched in every broadcast he touched.

Born in Sarajevo in 1979, Avdić didn't just watch the game; he lived it. From his early days playing basketball in Bosnia to graduating in political science, his journey was destined for the airwaves. His career soared through Federal Television and OBN, where his distinctive voice became the soundtrack for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team and NBA action. But it was on Arena Sport where he truly became immortal.

Voices of the Game

Who could forget the duo? Avdić and Nenad Kostić were the heartbeat of basketball commentary. Kostić, visibly moved, paid tribute during the Panathinaikos-Olympiacos match, proving that the bond between commentators transcends the court. Avdić’s voice rang out during history’s greatest moments: the ABA League final where Partizan crushed Cibona, thanks to Dušan Kecman’s impossible full-court three-pointer, and Mirza Teletović’s iconic shot against Lithuania. These weren't just plays; they were stories told by a master storyteller.

Colleagues from the "X&O's Chat" podcast confirmed the details. The ceremony will take place at the Crowne Plaza hotel, in the Exhibition hall. The family, friends, and fans are invited to honor his memory on Saturday, June 6, 2026. A final farewell in his hometown of Sarajevo is scheduled for Monday. The microphone is off, but the echo remains. Rest in peace, Edin.
