FC Barcelona forward Fermin Lopez has fractured his fifth metatarsal in his right foot and will require surgical intervention. This injury will prevent the Spanish player from competing in the upcoming World Cup.

Lopez was forced to leave the field injured during halftime of Sunday's match against Real Betis (3-1). According to a statement released by his club on Monday, he will undergo surgery on Tuesday.
The surgery will cause him to miss the World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19. Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente is set to announce the squad for the tournament next Monday.
Lopez, 23, who has seven caps for Spain, had a successful season at FC Barcelona, playing in 48 matches with 13 goals and 17 assists.
Capping off a successful 2024 European Championship, where he played 28 minutes, Lopez was named in Spain's squad for international matches in November 2025 and March.
