Serbian and Macedonian tourists planning to travel to Greece via North Macedonia in the coming days can expect significant traffic jams and long queues, especially at the Evzoni and Dojran border crossings. This is due to an extended weekend and the celebration of Saint Cyril and Methodius Day in North Macedonia. The upcoming weekend is also critical for travel to Greece, as the southern neighbors will also have an extended weekend.

Tips for Travelers Going to and Returning from Greece

Larger traffic jams are expected as early as tomorrow, Friday, May 22, particularly in the afternoon and evening, and on Saturday, May 23, in the morning. It is advised that Serbian citizens and other tourists avoid traveling during these periods.

If returning from Greece, avoid Monday, May 25, especially from the afternoon through the evening, as there may be delays of several hours.

Following this weekend, another critical period is expected next weekend. Friday, May 29, is a public holiday in North Macedonia due to the Pentecost religious celebration. Many will likely head to Greece the day before, so traffic jams may occur as early as Thursday afternoon and evening, and then on Sunday, May 31, in the opposite direction, back to North Macedonia.

Choosing Between Evzoni and Dojran

While the Evzoni border crossing is the most popular choice for many drivers, it is experiencing the greatest pressure and the longest queues. Dojran may sound like a savior and an excellent alternative, but experts warn that significant delays may also occur there during extended weekends. The best advice is to check the current traffic situation via live cameras and follow the experiences of other travelers before setting off.
