Apostolos Siskos made a splash at the Acropolis Swim Open, setting two national records and speaking about his rigorous daily training regimen and his preparations for the European Championships. Siskos clocked 1:54.12 in the 200m freestyle, the fastest time of the year worldwide. He then broke the national record in the 200m butterfly, finishing in 1:56.13.

In an interview with Action 24, the 20-year-old athlete expressed his surprise at the results. "I wanted to perform some races as competitively as possible," he explained, with the European Championships in mind. The new butterfly record was particularly significant, as Siskos had previously achieved a better time at the World Championships in Singapore in 2022, but the record was invalidated.

"Yesterday it became official," Siskos stated about his butterfly performance.

The athlete also discussed his daily routine, which involves about six hours of training every day. When he was a student, he would wake up at 5 AM, go to the pool at 6 AM, and then head straight to school. Siskos does not present this as a grievance but as part of his path. "It's the love I have for this sport," he emphasized, noting that perseverance and goals help him through tough days.

A serious shoulder injury in 2023 hindered his progress, but he managed to secure the Olympic qualifying time for Paris that year. His next milestone is the Greek National Championships in Athens, but his primary goal is the European Championships in Paris in August.
