Antonelli Aims for Formula 1 History in Montreal
This weekend, Formula 1 heads to the Canadian Grand Prix, where 19-year-old Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli has the chance to rewrite history in the world championship.
If Antonelli secures a win in Montreal, he will become the first driver to win his first four races consecutively. The Italian made his debut triumph in China in mid-March, followed by victories in Japan and Miami.
Antonelli has already joined Damon Hill and Mika Häkkinen as the only drivers to win their first three Grands Prix in a row. Hill achieved this feat in 1993 with wins in Hungary, Belgium, and Italy. Häkkinen's initial successes came at the end of the 1997 season and the beginning of 1998, starting with a victory in Jerez, followed by wins in Australia and Brazil.
Hill's winning streak in 1993 was interrupted in the Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril, where he finished third behind Michael Schumacher and his teammate in Williams, Alain Prost. Häkkinen's streak ended in the Argentine Grand Prix in Buenos Aires, where he finished second behind his McLaren teammate, David Coulthard. Now, it remains to be seen whether Antonelli's streak will continue or if he will face the same fate as Hill and Häkkinen.
