Andros, Greece, has taken a pioneering step in tourism by launching Andros AI, the first artificial intelligence travel guide for a Greek destination. This innovative service provides immediate answers to visitors' questions in any language, operating 24/7. Named Andros AI, the tool went live on May 20 and is designed to handle practical questions that travelers might typically ask a hotel concierge or local friend.

Practical Solutions for Travelers

Questions such as where to swim if the meltemi wind is strong, or where to find a genuine fourtalia, a traditional dish, are among the types of queries that Andros AI can answer. It also offers suggestions for spending time on the island with children and information about local events, all in the language of the user.

Andros AI was developed by Ioannis Pittakidis, the founder of andros-guide.gr and the digital studio Hype². The online guide has been running for 14 years and now attracts more than 295,000 unique visitors annually from 121 countries. This extensive user base provides a solid foundation of curated, locally maintained information for the AI to draw upon, distinguishing it from generic chatbots trained on open internet data.

Local Knowledge at Your Fingertips

"With Andros AI, we wanted to give every visitor and resident a personal guide that speaks their language and knows the island in depth," Pittakidis told Greek City Times. "It is a solution born on Andros, for Andros, and I believe it points the way to how Greek destinations will operate in the years to come."

Currently, Andros AI can be accessed at andros.ai and embedded within the existing andros-guide.gr website. Future plans include integrating the service into popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, making it more accessible to travelers.

Andros, located in the northernmost Cyclades, is a two-hour ferry ride from the port of Rafina, which is a 45-minute drive from central Athens. Known for its hiking trails, neoclassical architecture, and local tavernas, Andros offers a layered experience that benefits from a knowledgeable guide.

Beyond enhancing the visitor experience, Andros AI also generates valuable data. Each question, kept anonymous, provides insight into what visitors are searching for and what information they cannot find, which can help local authorities and businesses improve their services.

This tool represents a significant shift in how destinations approach tourism, moving away from traditional broadcast marketing towards real-time, data-driven insights that can inform decision-making.
