With the Superliga championship medal around his neck, veteran Alex Crețu (34) of Universitatea Craiova delivered an ironic thank-you to critics Raul Rusescu (37) and Marius Șumudică (55). The defensive player's message came after Universitatea Craiova secured their title with a decisive 5-0 victory over U Cluj in the penultimate round of the Superliga playoffs on May 17.

Crețu, known for his defensive prowess, was not a constant starter this season but became the heart of the victory against U Cluj. In the mixed zone, he addressed Rusescu and Șumudică, who had made disparaging comments about the team. "Thank you, Mr. Șumudică, thank you, Mr. Rusescu. You gave us a lot of energy," Crețu said.

Rusescu and Șumudică had previously doubted Universitatea's chances in the title race, but the team proved them wrong with their dominant performance. Fellow player Vladimir Screciu (26) also expressed joy and pride in the team's achievement, emphasizing the historical significance for the city, which had not won a title in 35 years.

"It's a dream to experience such moments with these wonderful supporters. I'm glad we made history," Screciu declared in an interview with Digi Sport. The victory not only secured the championship but also brought joy and motivation to the players, marking a triumphant return to the top of Romanian football.
