The night of Sunday was more than just a title handover for AEK. The New Philadelphia transformed into a massive yellow-and-black party, as the celebration for the 14th league title in the club's history resembled a top-tier European production.
No detail was left to chance, with the total cost of the celebration reportedly exceeding 500,000 euros. It was a meticulously planned production, down to the last detail, ensuring the night would be unforgettable in the Union's world.
From the open pre-game ceremony and events outside the Allwyn Arena, to the grand awards ceremony, AEK experienced a full week of festivities. The highlight was Sunday's celebration.
In the OPAP Arena, a full stage setup with special podiums, drones, fireworks, and impressive entrances was seen, while on the pitch, even the team's bus from Chios made an appearance, giving the night a unique touch. AEK didn't just want to lift the trophy; they wanted to present a show worthy of their history and dynamic.
This was driven by the personal desire of Marios Iliopoulos, who is said to have placed significant weight on the particular night. In fact, according to the same sources, the world didn't even see all that was planned. There was a huge show with Bengal fires that was eventually not carried out, as thousands of AEK fans entered the stadium and changed the flow of the program. Additionally, there was a plan for even more drones from the forest side, but this was canceled for safety reasons due to the massive crowd in New Philadelphia.
This, however, shows the extent of the preparation that had been made. AEK wanted a celebration that would stay in history. And judging by the images, the applause from the world, and what happened in New Philadelphia, they probably achieved it.
