AEK has already initiated its transfer strategy, aiming to make qualitative additions to its defense and midfield in preparation for the new season. Despite the club's exceptional performance in the previous year, securing the league and showcasing competitive strength in Europe, the team knows that the coming season will be even more challenging.
Following the end of the league season, Marco Nikolits, the Serbian coach, set the tone by clarifying that AEK does not need massive changes but rather targeted movements. Nikolits spoke about 3-4 reinforcements that will directly impact the starting lineup and increase the competitive intensity within the squad. This is the core philosophy that guides Javier Rimballa and the club’s management.
Currently, the biggest focus seems to be on the central defense. AEK aims to add another high-level stopper who will not be a supplementary solution but a player who will claim a starting position. With players like Moutoudi, Relvas, Winda, and Georgiev already in the squad, AEK still wants a strong option for the new season and increased competitive demands.
A reliable addition to the central midfield is also expected. AEK is anticipated to acquire at least one central midfielder and might even consider a second player in this position. The goal is to have more solutions behind key players like Pineda and Marin, ensuring that the team can handle league, European, and cup competitions without a drop in intensity or quality.
The topic of the left back position remains open. AEK is still evaluating data on Penrai, and the final decision will be made in the coming period after a comprehensive assessment of his profile and the team’s needs.
Of course, many things will depend on the possibility of sales within the summer. If a significant offer comes for a player already in the squad, AEK will move for a replacement. For now, the priority remains the targeted movements that will immediately elevate the team's level.
