Adrian Mutu, the 47-year-old president of University of Craiova, has delivered a significant blow to Gigi Becali's reign in Romanian football by securing the title ahead of the Superliga playoffs. On Sunday, May 17, University of Craiova clinched the championship, defeating U Cluj 5-0 in the final for the title after a dramatic 6-5 penalty shootout in the Romanian Cup final. The victory was a testament to their dominance and potential to maintain their position at the top of Romanian football for the next five years.

During the current season, Gigi Becali's FCSB has struggled, finishing in the relegation playoff, where they currently lead. Mutu believes that University of Craiova has the potential to dominate the Superliga in the next five years.

Mutu stated, "Of course, FCSB will strengthen, but University of Craiova has all the ingredients to perform and become a team that can dominate in the next five years." He also noted that other teams like Rapid and U Cluj will not stand idly by in the coming season, but University of Craiova, FCSB, and Rapid are the only teams with significant financial strength in the league.

The final matches of the ninth stage of the relegation playoff are scheduled for Monday at 8:30 PM. FCSB will play against Hermannstadt, with both previous regular-season matches ending in draws: 1-1 in Bucharest and 3-3 in Sibiu.
