Pedro Acosta led the final in-season MotoGP test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Monday, despite rain curtailing the session early. The KTM rider set the fastest time of 1m38.767s, outpacing Fabio Quartararo of Yamaha by 0.064 seconds. The session was interrupted when 2024 champion Jorge Martin crashed at Turn 7, marking his sixth crash in four days. The conditions worsened, leading to an early end to the test.
Only 18 race riders (plus Yamaha tester Augusto Fernandez) participated, with several key figures absent. Alex Marquez and Johann Zarco were in the hospital, recovering from fractures sustained in Sunday’s chaotic Catalan Grand Prix. Catalan GP winner Fabio di Giannantonio also missed the test, as did reigning world champion Marc Marquez, who had undergone surgery the previous week.
The session resumed after a red flag but was again halted due to rain. Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales, both from Tech3, finished third and fourth, respectively. Bagnaia, who had reported neck pain from Sunday’s crash with Zarco, finished 10th for Ducati. The test was noteworthy for the lack of new upgrades, as most manufacturers had already introduced major changes at Jerez in the previous month.
The focus now shifts to the 2027 regulations, with race riders set to sample the 850cc bikes in a tire test at Brno in June.
