The prices for tickets to the upcoming World Cup in football may drop in the weeks leading up to the tournament, with resale tickets already being significantly cheaper in many cases than those still being offered directly by FIFA, including for the opening match between the USA and Paraguay.
The FIFA central office opened a new window for sales yesterday. For the first match of the USA team in Los Angeles on June 12, a category 1 ticket is now priced at $2,735. However, on FIFA's resale platform, category 1 tickets are being offered for just $1,300, less than half the price of a first-hand ticket.
US President Donald Trump was asked by the New York Post about the fact that tickets for this first duel cost a four-figure sum and responded, "I wouldn't pay that much either."
A few days ago, FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated at the organization's congress that there had been 500 million ticket applications. "We have sold 100% of what we put on the market, which is about 90% of the total worldwide inventory so far," he said.
