Dramatic Debut in NBA Western Conference Finals
In a thrilling match at the PayCom Center in Oklahoma, the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder faced off in the first game of the Western Conference Finals. The Spurs emerged victorious with a score of 122-115, after two overtime periods. The standout performance came from Victor Wembanyama, who scored an impressive 41 points and grabbed 24 rebounds, echoing the great Wilt Chamberlain.
The 7-foot-4 French player, Wembanyama, was nearly unstoppable, shooting 56% from the field (14 of 25) and 92% from the free-throw line (12 of 13). He also recorded three blocks and one steal. This performance made him only the second player, alongside Wilt Chamberlain, to score at least 40 points and grab 20 rebounds in their Conference Finals debut, and the youngest to achieve this feat in NBA history.
Alex Caruso, a former Lakers and Bulls player, also had a standout game, scoring 31 points with 8 three-pointers. On the Thunder side, the MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander struggled with shooting, scoring 24 points, while Jalen Williams added 26 points. Despite the absence of De’Aaron Fox due to injury, San Antonio played well, with Dylan Harper contributing 24 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.
Dramatic Game Finale
The regular time concluded dramatically. Wembanyama’s three-pointer with 11 seconds left put the Spurs ahead 101-99, but Oklahoma responded. Gilgeous-Alexander tied the game with three seconds left, and Chet Holmgren blocked Wembanyama’s potential game-winning shot. The first overtime saw Caruso leading the Thunder’s charge, but Wembanyama and the Spurs maintained control, leading to a second overtime.
