The Killer Bee Stings in Rome
Jonas Jonas Vingegaard didn't just win the 2026 Giro d'Italia; he dismantled it. Five stage victories. Zero crashes. Zero illnesses. The Dane rolled into Rome on Sunday as the undisputed king of the maglia rosa, adding Italy's pink jersey to his two Tour de France titles and a Vuelta a España crown. He has joined an elite, almost mythical club: just the eighth rider in history to complete the career grand tour sweep.
"It’s amazing to see my name on the Trofeo Senza Fine," Vingegaard said, soaking in the magnitude of the moment. "It’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life."
Critics called it too easy. They missed the point. Vingegaard isn't here for theatrics; he's here for results. In the last 50 years, only Tadej Tadej Pogačar and Vingegaard have won five or more stages as a non-sprinter in a single Giro. The Killer Bees raced with total, suffocating control. This wasn't luck. This was methodical, relentless domination.
The Double Down
Visma-Lease a Bike took a massive gamble on the Giro-Tour double, and the first half of the bet is in the bank. Now comes the real test. The 2026 Tour de France kicks off July 4 in Barcelona, and waiting for Vingegaard is the one man who has consistently pushed him into the red: Pogačar.
Pogačar has won the last two Tours and is on a vicious tear. But Vingegaard is back at his best. "I gained lots of confidence," the Dane said. Team boss Richard Plugge couldn't hide his pride. "We are writing history again," Plugge said. "With the first rider of this generation to win all three grand tours."
Visma's swagger is restored. They won Paris-Roubaix with Wout van Aert earlier this spring, and now they hold the Giro. The script has been torn up. The question isn't if Vingegaard can compete. The question is whether he can finally break Pogačar's stranglehold on the Tour de France.
vingegaard really is a machine tbh. pogacar better bring his A game rn or he's gonna get crushed again...
