The Scottish Championship title race is in turmoil following a controversial Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decision that has sparked outrage across the country.

In the penultimate round of matches, league leaders Harts secured a routine win over Falkirk, while the focus shifted to the upcoming encounter between Hearts and Celtic. The home team maintained a crucial 2:2 draw well into stoppage time, which would have left Celtic three points behind Harts before the final round.

Harts had everything in their favor, even a narrow defeat in the final match would have left them with a chance at the title. However, a moment in the 99th minute turned the tide, causing half of Scotland to be incensed.

VAR official Andrew Dallas called on the main referee, John Beaton, to review a contentious situation in Hearts' penalty area. The central figure was Sem Nícolson.

The footage clearly showed the ball hitting the player in the head, not in an outstretched hand. Nonetheless, Beaton reviewed the footage for only 20 seconds before making a decision that resulted in chaos – he pointed to the spot!

This meant a penalty for Celtic, leading to a 3:2 victory and an eruption of fury across the nation.

Harts' fans argue that their club was robbed, and social media is flooded with accusations that the title was "delivered" to Celtic.

Famous football commentator Gary Lineker expressed his disbelief:

"This could be the worst VAR decision I've ever seen… incredible given the importance of the match!"

Harts' coach Derek McInnes was equally outraged:

"Everyone is against us. When you hear that Celtic got a penalty in the 96th minute after the VAR review, you just know they will win it. This is shameful and looks like a gift!"

Now the stage is set for a showdown in Glasgow! One match will decide the champion, but the burning question across Scotland is whether the title was already decided in the VAR room?
