The Turkish Grand Prix, which was scheduled to permanently return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2027, may now host the world championship earlier than anticipated. FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem revealed that the Istanbul Park circuit could potentially host the season this year, most likely at the end of September.

Formula 1 recently lost the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian races, originally scheduled for April, due to the ongoing conflict in Iran. There are also uncertainties regarding races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi at the end of the year. This has prompted the FIA and Formula 1 to explore alternative venues that can accommodate the championship to compensate for the lost races.

“We might push everything back by a week for Qatar. If not, then we could go to Turkey this year if the homologation is done and everything else is organized,” said Bin Sulayem. “We are looking for the best logistical scenario, consulting with promoters. It depends on where we want to go. We will try to organize things without stressing our staff too much. That would be too much,” he added.
