Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina secured victory in the Rome Masters, defeating American Coco Gauff in a thrilling 2-1 final match. The scores were 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.
Gauff started the match impressively, breaking serve in the first game and quickly leading 4-2. It seemed as though the American would control the court, but a complete turnaround happened. Svitolina raised her game level, winning four consecutive games to clinch the first set 6-4.
The second set provided true tennis drama. Both players were secure on their serves until the score reached 5-5, when Gauff made a crucial break and was one game away from leveling the match. However, when serving for the set, Svitolina returned the favor and won the break-back. This resulted in a tie-breaker.
In the deciding set, the score was tied 3-3 before Gauff shifted into a higher gear, winning four consecutive points to lead 7-3 and tie the match at one set each.
However, Svitolina refused to let the setback deter her. In the third set, starting from 2-2, Svitolina completely took control, making two breaks and leading 5-2. Although she later missed four match points, she converted the fifth opportunity into a triumph, securing one of the biggest wins of her career.
