A powerful 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey today, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The epicenter was located 10 kilometers deep, 21 kilometers away from the city of Malatya in eastern Turkey.

To date, no official reports of injuries or material damage have been confirmed. Eyewitnesses report that the earthquake was strong, causing chandeliers to sway. The tremors were also felt in Syria and Cyprus.

Citizens Flee to the Streets

Citizens living hundreds of kilometers from the epicenter reported severe shaking, visible in their social media posts. Many people fled to the streets in panic, awaiting aftershocks.

Malatya was one of the ten affected regions during the devastating earthquake of 2023. The epicenter at that time was in Pazar, affecting ten regions, including Malatya.
