Göztepe's head coach Stanimir Stoilov spoke after their 0-3 defeat to Samsunspor in the last round of the Trendyol Süper Lig. Stoilov reflected on the club's performance, acknowledging that it was a good season overall. "We progressed in the points table and finished higher compared to last season," he said. "However, we had a European target, and we really wanted to achieve it."
Stoilov discussed the match, which he described as having two distinct parts. "Before the red card, both teams had chances," he explained. "The opponents had two or three opportunities and scored. We had five or six opportunities but couldn't capitalize on them. I believe the turning point of the match was that."
Following the red card, Göztepe lost control of the game, allowing Samsunspor to score their remaining goals. "We couldn't convert our chances, but our opponents did," Stoilov added. "That was the biggest difference in today's match."
Stoilov highlighted that despite the missed European target, Göztepe had a good overall season. "We finished higher up in the table compared to last season," he reiterated. "I set the European target at the start of the season. Our players, team, club, and supporters worked and fought hard for it, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen. We need the right analysis and strategy for the upcoming season. When we look at why we couldn't achieve our goal, we see small errors and details. Three goals conceded in extra minutes in three matches significantly affected us. We need to make the right analyses and decisions for the next season."
