The 850th anniversary of St. Sava's birth was marked in Belgrade with the opening of the monumental exhibition "St. Sava" at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. This exhibition gathers centuries of Serbian spiritual, cultural, and historical memory in one place. It is not merely a reminder of the past but a strong testament to the enduring significance of St. Sava's legacy in shaping Serbian identity, faith, and culture today.

His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije officially opened the exhibition in the presence of numerous Serbian Orthodox Church hierarchs, state representatives, scientific and cultural institutions, diplomats, and guests from Greece. In his address, the Patriarch emphasized that through St. Sava's name, the deepest layers of spiritual and historical experience of the Serbian people have been accumulated from Hilandar and Studenica to Žiča, Karađorđe, and St. Sava's liturgical tradition.

The exhibition showcases precious relics and historical items from numerous monasteries, archives, and museums, particularly from the Hilandar Monastery. Visitors can view icons of Christ Pantocrator, the Virgin Hodigitria, the Milk-Giver, St. Sava, and St. Simeon, as well as the Karađorđe Typikon and replicas of Hilandar relics that have preserved the spiritual heritage of the Serbian people for centuries.

Culture Minister Nikola Selaković highlighted that the St. Sava legacy did not emerge in a single moment but through the centuries-long interweaving of faith, statehood, culture, and moral order. This is why St. Sava remains a symbol of a people who have built their strength not only with the sword but also with spirit, knowledge, and faith.

The exhibition will run until July 19 and is considered one of the most significant cultural events in recent years, not only for Serbia but for the entire Orthodox world. In an era of rapid forgetting and spiritual decay, such events remind us that a people who preserve their relics, manuscripts, and traditions are preserving their identity.
