Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, is hosting the 11th EU Adriatic-Ionian Strategy (EUSAIR) forum, which officially opened today, according to MIA. The forum's theme is "EUSAIR in Action: From Engagement to Impact." This high-level event will see the participation of top representatives from countries involved in EUSAIR, as well as EU institutions.
EUSAIR, an initiative by EU member states, aims to promote sustainable economic and social progress in the region. The strategy covers 10 countries in the Adriatic and Ionian Sea basin, including 4 EU member states (Croatia, Greece, Italy, and Slovenia) and 6 non-EU states (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, San Marino, Montenegro, and Serbia). EUSAIR also supports EU accession for Western Balkan countries, fostering synergies and coordination across the entire Adriatic-Ionian region.
The forum will address various issues, including progress in implementing the revised EUSAIR action plan, reinforcing cooperation regarding EU enlargement, promoting youth engagement, addressing demographic challenges, and supporting cross-border cooperation and regional integration.
This forum is a big deal for Balkan countries looking to join the EU. It's great to see cooperation and progress, but let's hope this isn't just another talk shop. What tangible steps will be taken?
