Simona Halep, the former world No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion, has revealed a major secret: she will be the star of the documentary "Vis" in Paris, directed by Remus Achim. Achim is known for bringing a different perspective to athletes through his three documentaries on Romanian football.
Halep's revelation was made in an InstaStory post, redistributing a post by Achim, which featured her and the film's clapperboard. "Vis" will focus on the moment Halep won her first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros in 2018, defeating American Sloane Stephens in a closely contested final with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Halep's journey at Roland Garros began in 2009 when she qualified for the main draw for the first time as a senior. In 2010, she reached the main draw via qualifying but was eliminated in the first round. In 2011, she made it to the second round, but was again eliminated by Samantha Stosur. In 2014, she reached the final but lost to Maria Sharapova. In 2017, she faced Jelena Ostapenko in the final, and in 2018, she finally secured her first Grand Slam title by defeating Sloane Stephens.
Remus Achim, aged 43, has over two decades of experience in video production and digital content. He has directed three documentaries related to sports: "In the Heart of the National" (2024), "Generation of the Soul" (2025), and "The Phenomenon: The Story of a Superstar" (2024).
Halep has 24 WTA titles to her name, with her last victory being at the 2022 Rogers Cup. She retired from professional tennis in February 2025, and a celebration gala will be held in her honor in Cluj-Napoca on June 13, 2025.
Simona Halep stepping into the spotlight in a documentary is a fitting tribute to her remarkable career. Will this film inspire a new generation of Romanian tennis stars? Let's hope so!
