Shakira Cleared of Tax Fraud in Spain: Millions to be Returned
The Spanish National Court has cleared Colombian singer Shakira of tax fraud charges and ordered the Spanish Tax Agency to return over 60 million euros in fines, plus interest, according to international news agencies citing legal documents.
This brings an end to the lengthy legal saga involving the famous singer.
In mid-April, the court ruled for the "return of paid amounts, plus legal interest," thereby overturning the tax adjustments and fines of several million euros imposed by tax authorities, who had considered the artist a fiscal resident in Spain in 2011, as reported by Agerpres.
The National Court admitted the artist's appeal against a previous ruling by the Tax Agency, overturning the assessments and penalties imposed.
According to the ruling, Spanish tax authorities failed to prove that she had lived in the country for more than 183 days in 2011, as required by law for income tax calculation.
This is a huge win for Shakira, but can you imagine the stress she must have gone through? I can't wait to see her perform without this legal nightmare hanging over her head. What do you think about the tax case?
