A heartwarming story spreading across social media has reignited discussions about coexistence, mutual respect, and neighborly relations in the Balkans. At the center of this story is the exceptional and symbolic gesture of Slavko Nerić, a Serb from Rogatica, Bosnia, which has garnered numerous positive reactions.
According to a post shared on social media by Edo Ćurić, Slavko has been involved in the construction of a mosque for his Bosnian Muslim neighbors. He was not just a casual helper but played an integral role in the construction from the very foundation to the peak.
"He Built It from Foundation to Finale"
"This mosque, from foundation to finale, was built by my friend Slavko Nerić, a Serb from Rogatica. He built it so that Muslims could return. And here, when someone says we cannot live together. How can we not?" Edo remarked.
The story gained additional attention after it was shared by the Instagram page "official.bih.srb.hr.cg," known for sharing positive stories from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, and Montenegro. The post quickly spread online, generating a significant number of reactions and comments, demonstrating the strong impact such stories still have on people.
"We Can and Must Live Together"
Many emphasized that examples like this show that coexistence, respect, and mutual aid are possible regardless of national and religious differences.
"We can and must live together. Those who don’t understand this are not thinking well for themselves, let alone others," wrote one user.
Others noted that "respecting others' faith means accepting each person's right to their own path and spirituality, which represents the foundation of freedom and human dignity."
Supportive comments included: "We can certainly live together, I hope everyone will understand this one day," "Great respect to him. He is a true Serb," and reminders that people used to help each other much more often despite their differences.
This is the kind of story that makes me proud to be a Balkan! It's proof that we can come together and show humanity. What do you think, should we see more of these stories to foster unity?
