Şenol Güneş, the veteran coach who has been linked to the position of technical director at Beşiktaş following the uncertain future of Sergen Yalçın, has made his first comment on the matter. Beşiktaş finished the 2025-2026 Süper Lig season in fourth place with 60 points, leaving many fans disappointed. Yalçın’s future at the club remains unclear, leading to speculation that Güneş could replace him should their paths diverge.

GÜNEŞ MAKES HIS STANCE CLEAR

In a statement to Ali Ece, Güneş, now 73 years old, addressed the speculation surrounding his potential appointment. "What matters is not coming to an important position, but not losing the love and respect that makes you worthy of that position. I thank all Beşiktaş fans who consider me worthy of this role," he said.

GÜNEŞ DEFERS TO THE BOARD

Güneş refrained from making any further comments, stating that the board would be making the final decision. "The decision will be made by the esteemed board. Given that Sergen Yalçın has stated he will continue in his role, it would be disrespectful for me to express any intentions at this time," he added.

Güneş last coached Trabzonspor in the previous season, but was replaced by Fatih Tekke after a 2-1 defeat to Hatayspor on March 11, during the 27th week of the league.
