Croatian MMA fighter Sara Luzar Smajić made history in the regional MMA scene by winning the inaugural KSW Bantamweight title at KSW 118 in Kališ, Poland. In a five-round, highly competitive fight, she defeated the home favorite Viktorija Čiževsk by unanimous decision.
From the start of the match, it was clear that Sara aimed to control the distance and use her boxing skills to her advantage. The Polish fighter attempted to close the distance with leg techniques, but Sara responded with powerful strikes and kicks that frequently landed on Čiževsk’s head. Despite Čiževsk’s successful takedown in the first round, Sara quickly regained her footing and continued to apply pressure against the cage.
As the match progressed, Sara demonstrated exceptional tactical preparation for this high-level competition. Čiževsk tried to close the distance aggressively, but each attempt resulted in further damage for the home fighter. Despite her efforts to change the tide with takedowns and clinches, Sara successfully defended all attempts and maintained dominance in the stand-up exchanges.
In the fourth round, Čiževsk managed to get Sara’s back, but failed to finish the match with a choke. Sara remained calm, escaped the dangerous situation, and continued to land combinations in the standing fight. The final ten seconds of the match were a true battle, with both fighters exchanging blows until the final bell.
The judges had no hesitation in declaring Sara Luzar Smajić the unanimous winner, making her the first KSW Bantamweight champion in the organization’s history. With this victory, she joins Robert Soldić, Antun Račić, and Goran Reljić as Croatian fighters who have won KSW titles.
This is a massive moment for Croatian MMA! Sara Luzar Smajić's win is not just a triumph for her, but a huge step forward for the sport in Croatia. Can we see more Croatian talent rise up in the coming years?
