Ruud Reaches Rome Final After Expressive Victory, Siner-Medvedev Match Interrupted Due to Rain
Kasper Ruud advanced to the final of the Rome Masters 1000 tournament with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Luca Massi. The Norwegian player has reached the final of the tournament, which offers an impressive prize fund of €8,235,000. He will face either world No. 1 Jannik Siner or Daniil Medvedev for the title.
Ruud, who entered the match with three semi-final losses in Rome, dominated the weakened Massi and secured a swift victory, despite interruptions due to rain. This win brings Ruud closer to his second title at this level. The 27-year-old Norwegian triumphed in Madrid last year and is now the sixth active player to have reached finals in all three Masters 1000 clay tournaments (Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome). Ruud was also a finalist in Monte Carlo in 2024.
"The feeling is great. I am sorry for Luca, who was playing at home, but there was not enough energy today. It is normal because he played until 2:30 AM the previous night. He had a great tournament. This is my tenth Masters 1000 semi-final, and I used my experience to impose myself," Ruud said, as cited by ATP.
Ruud's likely opponent in the final is Siner, who is on a 32-match winning streak at the Masters 1000 level. Siner's semi-final match against Medvedev was interrupted due to rain while Siner led the third set.
