Romanian swimmer David Popovici, 21, is preparing for his first international competition of the year, set to take place in Italy from June 26-28. The 62nd edition of the Settecolli IP Trophy, a prelude to the European Championships in Paris, will feature Popovici alongside some of the world's top swimmers.
The Romanian gold medalist has chosen to participate in his first international competition of the year. David will compete in the Settecolli IP Trophy, a final test before the European Championships in Paris, scheduled for August 10-16.
Other notable swimmers competing at Foro Italico include Thomas Ceccon, Nicolo Martinenghi, Sarah Sjostrom, Adam Peaty, Marrit Steenbergen, Gretchen Walsh, and Siobhan Haughey.
“I love swimming in open air, and that pool means a lot to me. Many world records have been set there. I don't know if I’m aiming to break a world record now. I don't want to rush it. I enjoy the suspense. I know I will break it, but I’m not in a hurry. This is the first year without World Championships or Olympic Games, so I’m taking it a bit easier,” Popovici recently said.
David Popovici’s decision to ease up this year is surprising but smart, given the lack of major events. But can he stay relaxed with all those world records within reach? Let’s see how he performs at Settecolli!
