The Romanian junior rowing team delivered a stellar performance at the European Rowing Championships held in Brandenburg, Germany. The highlight of the competition was a dominant victory in the women’s junior coxless four (JW4-), securing the top spot on the podium for the national squad.

A Historic Gold for the Women's Four

The gold medal in the JW4- category was claimed by a quartet displaying exceptional synchronicity and power. The crew consisted of Ana-Maria Bordanc, Alexandra Daria Crăciun, Anca-Andreea Culidiuc, and Denisa Mihaela Vasilica. Their victory underscores the depth of talent emerging within Romanian junior rowing, a sport that has long been a pillar of the country's athletic identity. Competing on home soil in terms of continental competition proximity, the team navigated the waters in Brandenburg with precision, outpacing rivals from across Europe to take home the most prestigious metal of the championships.

This win is particularly significant given the intense competition in lightweight and junior categories across the continent. The crew’s ability to maintain stroke rate and power through the final 500 meters sealed the deal, marking a memorable moment for these young athletes as they progress toward senior international competitions.

Additional Silver and Bronze Finishes

Beyond the gold, the Romanian contingent added further luster to the team’s overall tally with two silver medals and one bronze. The diversity of success across different boat classes demonstrated the breadth of the program’s strength.

In the women’s junior double sculls (JW2-), Marina Ariana Balint and Jessica Popescu fought hard to secure silver. Their partnership showed resilience in a tightly contested field, finishing just behind the eventual champions but still achieving a commendable result on the European stage.

The men’s junior double sculls (JM2-) also contributed a silver medal. Radu-Andrei Enescu and Dumitru Cristian Pascari displayed strong technique and endurance, holding off challenges from neighboring nations to claim second place. Their performance highlights the growing competitiveness of Romanian men’s junior rowing.

Rounding out the medal haul, the women’s junior quadruple sculls (JW4x) team took bronze. Comprising Ioana Gabriela Cristescu, Francesca Iulia Stejar, Sonia Teodora Biţă, and Daria Elena Maximiuc, the crew battled through the heats and finals to secure a podium finish. While bronze is often seen as a consolation, in the high-pressure environment of European championships, it represents a significant achievement for developing athletes.

These results collectively reinforce Romania’s status as a rowing powerhouse, even at the junior level. As these athletes continue to develop, they represent the future of the sport in the Balkans and beyond.
