The renovation of Kumica, an historic metoh of the Hilandar Monastery, began with a donor event held at the Royal Palace in Dedinje. The event brought together numerous figures from public, cultural, and economic life to support the project of renovating one of the most significant properties of the Hilandar Monastery. After renovation, Kumica will serve as a retreat and spiritual-educational center for children and youth, including those with special needs.

The donor event was organized by the Royal Foundation of Crown Prince Filip and Princess Daniela, in collaboration with the Hilandar Monastery. The evening featured a presentation of the project and other initiatives under the Hilandar Monastery’s program for working with children and youth. Crown Prince Filip emphasized that Kumica "is not just a renovation project, but a project for the future."

The plan involves a complete reconstruction of the complex within the historic boundaries, respecting the traditional architecture of Holy Mount Athos. The renovated facility will include accommodation for children and youth, specially adapted rooms for children with special needs, a library, classrooms, a cafeteria, a clinic, and outdoor activity areas. The estimated value of the reconstruction is over 3.3 million euros.

Kumica, located near the town of Nea Roda and close to Holy Mount Athos, has historically been one of the most significant properties of the Hilandar Monastery. Today, only remnants of the walls and the church of Saint Haralampius from the 19th century remain. The renovation aims to preserve the authentic look and spirit of this historic place.
