The municipality of Pavlikeni has recently renovated a monument-tomb dedicated to participants of the April Uprising who lived in the town. The memorial is located in the park named after Kiril Rakarov.
The initiative, which included cleaning the monument and restoring the inscriptions, also involved applying a hydrophobic treatment to the stone to ensure its preservation over time. This restoration work is in preparation for the significant 150th anniversary celebrations of the April Uprising, which will begin at 6 PM on May 8th in Pavlikeni.
The April Uprising, which began on April 20, 1876, was a crucial event in the struggle for Bulgaria's independence from the Ottoman Empire. Pavlikeni, like many other towns in the region, played a vital role in the uprising, and the restoration of this monument underscores the town's commitment to preserving and honoring its historical legacy.
The celebrations are expected to attract numerous visitors, including dignitaries such as President Rumen Radev, who is scheduled to attend the event in Biała Cerkiew, further highlighting the significance of the April Uprising in the broader context of Balkan history.
