Coffee remains an indispensable part of daily life, with baristas continuously pushing the boundaries of the craft, transforming each cup into a personal signature. The regional coffee scene is about to enter a new chapter with the opening of the Barcaffè Barista Cup 2026, the most prestigious and important coffee-making competition in the region. The main finals will take place on October 1, 2026, in Belgrade.
Following exceptional interest and growth in the competition over the previous editions, the Barista Cup this year brings together the best baristas from Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, providing them with the opportunity to showcase their knowledge, precision, and creativity on a regional level.
Applications are open from May 15 at 10:00 to June 15 at 23:59. Interested candidates can apply through the official Barcaffè Barista Cup website. The application process involves filling out a form and uploading a video showcasing their skills, techniques, and personal approach to coffee preparation.
This year's edition introduces the biggest change to the competition format to date: the introduction of semi-finals, which will be held in each participating country. After reviewing the submitted video applications, the top candidates will have the chance to present their knowledge and skills in person to a panel of expert judges.
During the semi-final competition, candidates will prepare espresso and their signature drink, with a focus on technical precision, creativity, and presentation quality. Their performances will be judged by panels of sensory and technical judges, who will evaluate the overall barista skills and approach to coffee preparation.
Ten of the best baristas from the region will compete in the final. Each country will have one guaranteed representative, with the remaining finalists selected based on the overall quality of their applications and performance in the semi-finals. The grand final will be held on October 1, 2026, at the iconic Belgrade venue Fabrika Events. Finalists will compete in front of a live audience and expert judges, showcasing their technical skills, creativity, and personal expression through the preparation of espresso, latte art, and signature drinks.
The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of 5,000 euros and the prestigious title of the best barista in the region. The expert judges of the Barcaffè Barista Cup 2026 will be led by chief judge Aleš Gorenc, with sensory judges Jovan Zdravković, Nik Oroši, Filip Lipnik, and Matija Matijaško. Technical judging will be handled by Toni Matas, with support from Marko Podbrežnički in preparing the competition.

Beyond the competition, it offers new professional opportunities, collaborations, and connections, providing a platform to present one's work to industry leaders.
