The reconstruction of the stadium in Kranjčevićeva Street is making steady progress, set to become a temporary venue for both Dinamo and Lokomotiva. The completion of these works is a prerequisite for demolishing the existing stadium and constructing a new one in Maksimir, with the plan for the clubs to play at the renovated site in the second half of next season.
Progress in Construction
The new Kranjčevićeva stadium is expected to become a significant sports landmark in the city. Once Dinamo and Lokomotiva, which currently play their matches at the Maksimir stadium, move to Kranjčevićeva by the end of the year, demolition and construction of the new Maksimir stadium can begin. The new stadium in Maksimir is scheduled to be completed by 2030.
Capacity of 11,163 Seats
"After more than 50 years, Zagreb will have a modern sports arena with a capacity of 11,163 seats by the end of 2026, featuring a field measuring 105 × 68 meters according to UEFA Category 4 standards. It will also include a new town square of 6,300 m², a car park with over 400 spaces, and additional amenities for athletes and fans."
The construction of the stadium will support urban renewal in the area, adding an architecturally valuable structure and a prime venue for sports and other events like concerts.
"It is important to note that the reconstruction of the stadium in Kranjčevićeva is a necessary prerequisite for demolishing the existing stadium and building a new one in Maksimir, the realization of which has been agreed upon in collaboration with the Croatian Government," the city officials stated at the beginning of the year.
This new stadium in Kranjčevićeva is a game-changer for Zagreb's sports landscape. But what about the fans? How do they feel about the temporary move? This could be a huge test for the clubs' fan bases. What do you think, will they handle it well?
