The MotoGP season took a dramatic turn during the French Grand Prix sprint race, with a severe crash involving multiple MotoGP stars. Spaniard Jorge Martin claimed victory in the sprint race, while seven-time world champion Marc Marquez suffered a serious fall and broken foot.
In the penultimate lap of the sprint race, Marquez experienced a severe accident, flipping over his motorcycle and crashing heavily onto the track. Despite managing to get up, he limped noticeably as he left the track. His team quickly confirmed that Marquez had fractured a metatarsal bone in his right foot and would be undergoing surgery shortly. He has already left for Madrid where the surgery is scheduled to take place.
This incident marks Marquez's latest in a series of serious injuries that have plagued the current world champion in recent times. His absence is a significant loss for the MotoGP championship, with the standings now led by Marc Bezzecchi with 108 points, followed closely by Martin with 102 points. Pedro Acosta is in third with 72 points, while Fabio Di Giannantonio is fourth with 71 points. The French Grand Prix continues on Sunday, with the main race starting at 14:00 local time.
