The most challenging of the three Bulgarian stages in the Giro d'Italia is set to take place today, featuring a grueling 221 km course through the Stara Planina mountain range. The Saturday stage from Burgas to Veliko Tarnovo will see competitors tackle three categorized climbs: Belya, Vratnik, and Laskovski Monastery. This presents a prime opportunity for a breakaway victory, with the potential to establish a lead that could last until the final stage on the notoriously difficult Blockhaus ascent.
The profile of the second stage is such that a sprint finish among the main group cannot be ruled out, similar to yesterday's opening stage. Such an outcome would suit race leader Pol Manche from the Quick-Step team. However, many other teams will be vying for the victory, all needing to navigate the steep and cobblestone streets of the old Bulgarian capital.
The stage is expected to conclude in Veliko Tarnovo around 5:00 PM, with the start in Burgas from the "Troika" square at approximately 12:00 PM.
