Zlatko Mateša resigned unexpectedly yesterday, and today we learn that he has empowered you to perform your duties. Can you provide your comments?
"I was surprised. I'm currently on a short break, I didn't know, but it's fine. The task of a deputy president of the Olympic Committee is to step in if needed. My task is to ensure that everything runs regularly until a new president or president-elect is chosen, so athletes can travel to competitions and sports can function normally."
On whether she had spoken to Zlatko Mateša and knew she would be empowered, she replied: "No, I didn't know. Mr. Krajač called me yesterday and asked if it was okay. I said it was fine and gave my consent."
So, you agreed to this?
"That's correct."
We've been following the recent scandals in the Judo Federation, and your name was mentioned. Do you think it's appropriate to take on this responsibility now?
"I think it's appropriate because these are just accusations from former employees that we resolved over two years ago. They sold the story to the media. After the Skiing Federation, everything became a scandal, and we also became a scandal, although there isn't one. The institutions will determine that."
What about moral responsibility until the situation is cleared up?
"It's difficult for me to say what moral responsibility would be towards the HOO, as I know we are working regularly and everything is fine."
What happens next? What are the next steps?
"It's a technical duty. I've been in the sports system for a long time. The next steps include drafting the tender text and tender documents. After the announcement, candidates are likely to come forward, and an election assembly must be prepared."
Are you considering running for the position yourself?
"No, I haven't considered that."
"The System Must Function"
To remind, the Chief Secretary of the Croatian Olympic Committee, Siniša Krajač, announced this morning to N1 that Zlatko Mateša, who resigned yesterday from the position of president of the HOO, has empowered Sanda Čorak from the Judo Federation to lead the HOO and that he will start working with her on preparing materials and initiating the process of convening the Council.
The executive vice president of the Croatian Water Polo Federation, Perica Bukić, did not comment in detail on Mateša's decision.
"The system must function, there are programs that need to be implemented, funds that must reach national sports federations. It's a living body, every day someone competes, someone travels, and it must function," Bukić told aN1 television.
tbh, this is a bit surprising. I didn't expect Mateša to hand over to Čorak so suddenly. But it's good they're keeping things running smoothly.
