The Silver Medalist’s Final Lap
The track is not kind to those who break its rules. Marvin Bracy-Williams, the 32-year-old American sprinter who claimed silver on the 100 meters at the 2022 World Championships, has been handed a crushing 12-year ban by the United States Anti-Doping Agency United States Anti-Doping Agency. This is not a minor infraction; it is a career-ending sentence for his third failure to comply with whereabouts requirements.
The violations occurred on specific dates that now mark the end of an era: July 1, 2025, February 24, 2026, and April 1, 2026. The whereabouts protocol demands athletes report their location for at least one hour daily to allow for unannounced out-of-competition testing. Missing these windows is a breach of trust, and for a third-time offender, the penalty is severe.
Justice Delayed, But Not Denied
Under USADA guidelines, a first whereabouts violation carries a one-to-two-year ban depending on fault. However, third offenses trigger sanctions ranging from eight years to life. Bracy-Williams’ 12-year term will not begin immediately. It is set to start only after he serves a 45-month suspension he accepted in November 2025 for a previous anti-doping rule violation.
In a move that signals the end of the road, Bracy-Williams informed USADA on Friday of his intention to retire from professional athletics. Consequently, his ban will remain in effect indefinitely until he formally returns from retirement and serves the remainder of his penalties. He has also been stripped of all competitive results achieved on or after April 1, 2026, including any medals, points, or prizes.
A Controversial Chapter
Earlier this year, Bracy-Williams joined the Enhanced Games Enhanced Games, a controversial series that permits the use of substances banned in official competitions. Last month, he finished third in the 100 meters at the inaugural event in Las Vegas. Now, his legacy is marred by a decade-long exile from the sport he once dominated.
човекът си го заслужава напълно tbh. 12 години са твърде много но 3 пропуснати теста са просто невъзможни за оправдаване. интересно дали ще се върне някога...
