Marion Bartoli Returns to Roland Garros as a Coach
Roland Garros is fast approaching, with qualifying matches for the main draw starting today in Paris. Several well-known names will compete in the qualifiers, including former top-10 players Bianca Andreescu, Karolina Pliskova, and Sloane Stephens.
Paola Badosa, another popular figure in the WTA, will also have to navigate the qualifiers to secure her place in the main draw of the French Open, where tournament director Amélie Mauresmo will play a key organizational role.
While Mauresmo will be a prominent figure, her compatriot Marion Bartoli will also be in the spotlight, albeit in a very different role.
According to the Belgian Tennis Federation, the Grand Slam champion Marion Bartoli will be coaching Jil Vandromme during the Roland Garros qualifiers.
The 18-year-old Belgian currently holds 179th place in the WTA rankings, which is a record low in her career. Vandromme has a career record of 84 wins and 32 losses and is ranked 87th in the qualifying list for Roland Garros.
A total of 16 players will secure spots in the main draw of the French Open through the qualifiers, with eight wild cards completing the 128-player field.
Bartoli, a former Wimbledon champion, is no stranger to the tennis world, especially in France. Her most notable achievement was winning Wimbledon in 2013, defeating Sabine Lisicki 6-1, 6-4 in the final. Despite not winning Roland Garros, she reached the semi-finals in 2011. In her career, Bartoli also reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and US Open, accumulating eight titles and 490 match wins, reaching seventh place in the world rankings.
Post-retirement, Bartoli has worked as a television analyst for BBC, Eurosport, and Amazon, and hosts the podcast "Bartoli Time." She has also served as a coach or advisor to Yelena Ostapenko.
Jil Vandromme won the girls' title at the US Open in 2025 and triumphed at the ITF World Tennis Tour Finals. This season, she has secured two ITF titles and entered the top 200 in the world rankings.
