Croatian tennis player Petra Marčinko made history by reaching the quarterfinals of a WTA tournament for the first time in her career. Marčinko overcame Ukrainian Elizaveta Kotliar in a grueling three-set match, winning 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 after two and a half hours of play. Throughout the match, Marčinko demonstrated superior skills, though Kotliar fought hard until the tiebreaker in the third set. The 20-year-old from Zagreb ultimately found her way to victory.

Turning Point Leads to Victory

The match began with Marčinko giving away a break point in the first game, but she managed to hold her serve despite making three double faults. Kotliar took advantage of this early opportunity, breaking Marčinko's serve to take a 3-2 lead. Marčinko, however, could not maintain this advantage, and Kotliar won the first set after breaking Marčinko's serve again at 6-5.

In the second set, Marčinko broke Kotliar's serve in the opening game but quickly lost her own. However, Marčinko regained her composure and won eight consecutive games to take the second set 6-2. Marčinko then started the third set with a 3-0 lead, including two break advantages. Despite having a game point for 4-0, she made errors, allowing Kotliar to return to the match. Kotliar led 5-4 but Marčinko held her serve to stay in the match, eventually breaking Kotliar at 6-5. With two match points, Marčinko finally clinched the win in the tiebreaker.

Looking Ahead

Marčinko will face Spaniard Jessica Bouzas in the quarterfinals. This victory marks a significant milestone in Marčinko's career, showcasing her potential and determination on the international stage.
