Robert Lewandowski Announces Departure from Barcelona
The 37-year-old Polish striker, Robert Lewandowski, has announced that he will leave Barcelona at the end of his contract this summer. Lewandowski joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022 and has scored 119 goals in 191 matches, contributing significantly to the club’s success, including three La Liga titles and the 2025 Copa del Rey.
In an Instagram post, Lewandowski said, "After four years full of challenges and hard work, it's time to move on. I leave with the feeling that the mission is complete. Four seasons, three championships."
The Poland international has faced several injuries over the past year, playing only 15 league games this season. However, his goal against Osasuna earlier this month was pivotal in securing the La Liga title for Barcelona. Lewandowski made a late appearance in last weekend's Clasico win over Real Madrid.
His final game for the club will be at the Spotify Camp Nou against Real Betis on Sunday, followed by the season’s final match against Valencia the following Saturday. Coach Hansi Flick, who previously worked with Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, confirmed that Lewandowski will start against Betis.
"He spoke with the team, said goodbye, and that it was a great time for him here in Barcelona," said Flick. "He's a perfect role model for young players - a fantastic human, but also a world-class player. This is why he's still playing at this level."
Barcelona also paid tribute to the forward in a statement, adding, "Thank you, Robert Lewandowski, for every goal, every fight, and every magical moment wearing these colours. He arrived as a star, he leaves as a legend."
Lewandowski's departure is the end of an era at Barcelona. But can they replicate his level of consistency and goal-scoring prowess? Time will tell. What do you think Barca needs to do to maintain their dominance?
