Bulgarian football club Levski secured their championship title in front of the family of the late Julio Velasquez, the club's former Spanish coach who had a premonition that the team would achieve greatness under coach Marco Dugandzic.
A Momentous Victory
The victory is a significant milestone for Levski, who hadn't won the Bulgarian First League since 2005. The club's triumph marks a break from the long-standing dominance of CSKA Sofia, who have held the title for the past 14 years. Velasquez, who coached Levski from 2012 to 2013, had a deep connection with the club and believed in the potential of the team under Dugandzic’s leadership.
Velasquez's Vision
Before his passing, Velasquez shared his belief that Levski would achieve a historic win under Dugandzic, who took over as the club's head coach in 2021. Velasquez’s family was present to witness the momentous occasion, making the victory even more poignant and celebratory.
A Break from Tradition
The win not only cements Levski’s status as champions but also symbolizes a significant shift in the Bulgarian football landscape. For 14 years, CSKA Sofia had held the top spot, but with this victory, Levski has proven that they are a force to be reckoned with, capable of challenging the established order.
