The living legend of cycling, Mark Cavendish, told Sportal.bg that hosting the first three stages of this year's Giro d'Italia was good promotion for Bulgaria. Cavendish, a record holder for stage wins in the Tour de France, is a guest of Monster Energy during the Grand Prix of Catalonia in MotoGP, where Sportal.bg is also represented by Eugen Vakov.
Cavendish was interviewed about the promotional impact of hosting the Giro and his love for motorcycles, despite being born on the Isle of Man, known for its TT races.
"I watched a bit of the Giro in Bulgaria. The weather wasn't great, was it? It rained for all three days, but it looked beautiful, very green. It's a very nice place. I think what cycling does really well is showcase the beauty of a country. I believe more than 50% of the people who watch cycling do so for the landscapes. And when you have such diverse landscapes as in Bulgaria, cycling is definitely good promotion for that.
"I was born and live on the Isle of Man, famous for the TT, so motorcycles are in my blood. Two wheels are life there. TT is coming up in a few weeks, and I can't wait. My best friend Cal Crutchlow was a MotoGP pilot, so I've always followed MotoGP. I'm lucky with my relationship with Monster Energy, which allows me to experience things that people only dream of. Coming to MotoGP and enjoying what I love," Cavendish told Sportal.bg.
