Jonathan Narváez Wins Eighth Stage of Giro d'Italia
Ecuadorian cyclist Jonathan Narváez claimed his second victory in the 2026 Giro d'Italia by winning the eighth stage. Riding for the UAE Team Emirates, Narváez outpaced Norway's Andreas Leknessund in the final climb, finishing 32 seconds ahead of him. Narváez's victory comes just days after he won the second stage of the Giro d'Italia, showcasing his strength in both flat and mountainous stages.
Portuguese cyclist Afonso Eufrasio maintained his lead in the general classification, with a 3:15-minute advantage over Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard. Leknessund exerted significant effort in his pursuit of Narváez during the final climb but failed to close the gap, finishing second. The day's stage shifted from the mountainous terrain of the previous day, where Vingegaard won, to the Adriatic coast before concluding with a climb near the town of Fermo.
Norwegian Martin Tjelta finished third, trailing Leknessund by ten seconds. Narváez's victory adds to his impressive record, which includes stage wins in 2020 and 2024. This year, however, he opted not to participate in the pre-Giro events in Bulgaria due to the January catastrophe in Australia.
Narváez is showing incredible form this year, but can he keep it up for the rest of the Giro? Let's see if he can hold on to his victories or if someone else will take the lead!
