Jon Jones, the former UFC heavyweight champion, believes he could surprise in boxing if he transitions from MMA. Jones attended the "Rousey vs. Carano" event on Saturday in Los Angeles, California, where Francis Ngannou knocked out Philipe Lins in a heavyweight matchup. Ngannou subsequently called out Jones for a fight, to which Jones expressed interest, noting that he would need to be released from his UFC contract first.

A Chance to Show Other Skills?

“I think getting out of my UFC contract is very possible,” Jones said. “I need to find the right people and go through the right channels. I really wanted to box. If I put all of my energy into my hands, my combinations, my punching power, I think I would surprise a lot of people. I would love to box.”

Jones (28-1) has been having a falling out with the UFC. He retired as the heavyweight champion last year after avoiding interim champion Tom Aspinall for over a year. However, he quickly started rallying for a spot on the White House card as soon as it was first mentioned. After failing to secure a place on the White House card, Jones lashed out at the UFC and began requesting his release from the organization. However, Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of Most Valuable Promotions, doesn’t sound very optimistic about Jones’ UFC release, believing Dana White will make it extremely difficult.

“I think getting out of my UFC contract is very possible,” Jones tweeted, adding that he wants to transition to boxing next.

Will Jones make the transition to boxing, and if so, how will it impact his legacy in MMA?
